Presentations of the American Professors at the History Departments of BSU

Elio Brancaforte is Associate Professor in the Department of Germanic s Slavic Studies at Tulane University ( New Orleans) and recieved his PhD. in Comparative Literature from Harvard University in 2001 year. Currently he is a Fulbright teaching / research fellowship at the Baku State University History Department ( Spring 2015) as well as a Visiting Fellow in the Faculty of Oriental Studies, Oxford University.

Dr. Irina Shingiray received her Ph.D from the Department of Archaeology at Boston University in 2011 where she has been a Research Associate for the past three years. Currently she is is Reasearch Associate at Oxford University/ Her main research interests include Western Eurasian nomadism, nomadic empires and their relations with the sedentary world. Her particular focus is on the Khazar Empire of the second half of the first millenennium CE. She conducts interdisciplinary research and fieldwork in the North Estern Caucasus region and examines the interplay between politics, religion, mobility, kinship, gender and material culture.
