GENERAL INFORMATION

The Faculty of History of the Baku State University was established in 1919. During 90 years of its activity the Facultty of History has prepared high quzlified historical staff for state offices, the spheres of education and culture of the Republic. Plenty of prominent scientists, cultural workers and statesmen are the graduates of the Faculty of History.

The Genius statesman of Azerbaijan, world-famed politician, the hero of Social Labor twice, the doctor of numerous foreign Universities, the laureate of International Ataturk reward, awarded with high rewards of France and Russia, the nation-wide leader of the Azerbaijan Republic H.A.Aliyev is also the graduate of the Faculty of History.

The first dean of the faculty was Professor N.A.Dubrovsky (1919-1922). Now the dean of the Faculty is Professor S.T.Hadjiyev. Among the post-graduators of the Faculty there are a lot of prominent scientists who are at the highest level of the science and played an important role in the preparation of the national staff of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

  • R.A.Mehdiyev - the official of the President Office of the Azerbaijan Republic, Ph.D., academic;
  • A.H.Haydarov - general lieutenant, the consul of USSR at the Embassy of Turkey in 1967-1970s, the Minister of Internal Affairs in 1970-1978s;
  • A.M.Hasanov - the Director of the Social-political department of the President Office of the Azerbaijan Republic, the doctor of History, professor;
  • M.A.Korostovsev - the prominent oriental-studies scientist, the academic of the Academy of Science of USSR;
  • I.H.Aliyev - the chairman of the Institute of History named after A.A.Bakikhanov in NASA, academic;
  • T.A.Bunyadov - the director of the department in the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the NASA, academic;
  • I.H.Huseynov - the doctor of History, deserved scientific worker, academic;
  • Y.M.Mahmudov - the director of the Institute of History in the NASA, the doctor of History, the correspondent member of the NASA, the deserved scientific worker;
  • A.M.Atakishiyev - the doctor of History, deserved scientific worker;

  • A.M.Shahmaliyev - the doctor of History, professor;
  • M.A.Ismayilov - the vice-director of scientific works of the institute of History in the NASA, the correspondent member of the NASA, the doctor of History;

  • The problem of composing the textbooks for the History of Slavic countries in ancient, Middle Ages, new, and modern periods

There are 9 departments, "Azerbaijan Studies" Scientific research Center, which consists of the sections of "Archaeological and ethnographic investigations" and "World Azerbaijanis", The Center of Turkish World Investigations, The Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography at the Faculty. The education is conducted in Azeri, Russian, and English. There works 1 correspondent member of the NASA, 31 Ph.D. and professors, 61 candidates of History and associated professors, senior lecturers, lecturers, 11 research scientists and assistant personal of education at the Faculty.

3 of them (A.M.Atakishiyev, S.S.Aliyarli, Y.M.Mahmudov) are the deserved scientists, 3 of them (Y.M.Mahmudov, F.Ibrahimli, C.P.Hasanli) are the deputies of the Parliament (Milli Maclis) of the Azerbaijan Republic, 1 of them (T.T.Valiyev) is the deserved teacher of the Azerbaijan Republic.

The dean's office, The Scientific Union and the departments form the structure of the Faculty. There are 9 departments, 1 Scientific Research Center and 1 Museum at the Faculty. Now there are conducted lessons for bachelor and master degreesin two compartments.

In Bachelor degree the term of education are 4 years for full time study and 5 years for study by correspondence in all specialties. The education is concluded by preparing the diploma work and its defense.

In Master degree the term of education are 2 years for full time study and 2, 5 years for study by correspondence in all specialties. The education is completed by preparing the dissertation work and its defense. For the present the first step of doctorate is Ph.D. degree at Baku State University (3 years for full time study and 4 years for study by correspondence). The lectures are conducted in 2 turns.

There is embodied an extra education form as the second education form at the Faculty. The second education form is realized on the basis of bilateral and individual agreements between BSU and separate organizations, offices and enterprises. The people, whose previous education or current (no fewer 1 year) one are in correspondence with the specialty that they choose, can participate in contest, which rules are determined by BSU. Simultaneously, from these people are taken an interview. Those, who passed it successfully, are accepted to the line of students of specialty for the second education. According to the correspondence of specialties for first and second educations, they are accepted to the suitable courses and the term of study is determined. The education bases on payment. The fee is payed according to separate majors and on the basis of agreements.
