The brief biographic information
- Professor Yagub Mikayil oglu Mahmudov (Yagub Mahmudlu) came from Rahimogullari noble generation in Bash Goynuk village of Shaki district in 1939.
- After finishing Saribulaq secondary school in Balakan in 1956, Yagub Mikayil oglu Mahmudov commenced his first pedagogical activity here.
- He worked as an educator - teacher at the Secondary school.
Education,Academic Degrees Obtained
- Y. M. Mahmudov entered “History” faculty of Azerbaijan State University (at the present time Baku State University) in 1957.
- He was awarded Stalin, then Lenin grants for excellent performance, marks on his lessons.
- He led the trade union and Komsomol organizations of this department.
- For his special concerns on scientific researches he was elected the chief of Student Scientific Society in History department.
- In 1962 he graduated from university with successful excellent marks and was kept in post - graduate study on the profession of “History of the Middle Ages” by the special resolution of Academic Council of History department
- Since the same time, under professor A. M. Shahmaliyev’s leadership of the distinguished specialist on the Middle Ages, he began scientific researches on the subject of “problem of Mutual Relations of Azerbaijan States with European states”.
- After post-graduate study in 1966 Y.M. Mahmudov defended his thesis for candidacy on “Mutual relations of Azerbaijan Aghgoyunlu State with Venice Republic.”
Work Experience
- After separating university, Y. M. Mahmudov starting work as a scientific editor of History Editorial office in Azerbaijan Soviet Encyclopedia under the direct of Rasul Rza,People’s Poet of Azerbaijan
- In 1966 worked as great scientific editor till 1975, chief of General History and Azerbaijan History editorial offices, eventually editor-in-chief on scientific affairs.
- In 1968 he was invited to work senior teacher in General History department of Azerbaijan State Pedagogical Institute named after V.I.Lenin (Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University).
- Here he taught history of Middle Ages, had programs, training-methodical materials printed, was awarded associate professor of academic degree.
- Besides these he extended again his researches on mutual relations problem of Azerbaijan with European States.
- Scientist’s books such as “Unknown pages” in 1972, “Travelers visit Azerbaijan” in 1977, “Journey to Land of Fires” were published.
- Y.M. Mahmudov’s scientific works were met with great interest by the scientific public and the bulk reader mass of population.
- By the way the author laid down the foundations of very essential direction propagating historical past in the science of Azerbaijan history, real historical truth with scientific-popular books.
- Y.M. Mahmudov returned to his native University in 1981 considering Prof. M. H. Orujov’s insistence many times who supported him in his student and post-graduate years.
- Y. M. Mahmudov took an active part in the struggle for independence of Azerbaijan people in 1988-1990.
- In 2004, Yagub Mahmudov for the fourth time was elected the dean of Historical faculty BSU, simultaneously continuing to be the head of the chair of the Ancient world and the Middle Ages.
