Azerbaijani-Czech-Hungarian historical seminar: 100 years since the end of the First World War

Baku. 27 November. 2018 To commemorate the Centenary of the end of the First World War, the Czech and Hungarian Embassies in Baku organized a historical seminar on 26 November, in cooperation with the Baku State University (BSU), Report informs citing the Czech Embassy to Azerbaijan.

The event was attended by a large group of students of the BSU Faculty of History.

In his opening lecture, Tomáš Jakl from the Military History Institute in Prague focused on the alliance between the German Empire and Soviet Russia during the last year of the First World War, highlighting the contribution of two Czech researchers, Zbyněk Zeman and Viktor Miroslav Fic, to the international debate. András Joó from the Veritas Research Institute in Budapest, in his turn, focused on the impact of the First World War on Hungary while the contribution by Tahmina Aslanova from the Baku State University was centered around the role of Azerbaijan, including Azerbaijani officers of the Czarist army, in the 1914 - 1918 conflict.

By organizing the seminar, the Czech and Hungarian Embassies as well as the BSU have contributed to international exchange of knowledge about the period of the First World War and its aftermath.
