YUSIF NIFTALI YUSIFOV (1906-1995) Historian

Yusif Yusifov was born in Qazakh region on 20 October 1906. In 1926, he graduated from Qazakh Teachers` Seminary, beginning his working career. He worked as a teacher in Qojaahmadli village in Qaryagin region, secondary school principal, youth school principal, head of Regional People`s Enlightenment Council, department head at Shamkhor and Aghdam region party committees (1933-1953), editor of “Lenin yolu” newspaper in Aghdam, lecturer and deputy department head at Baku city party committee, first secretary of Keshla and Aghdam region party committee, and first secretary of Nakhchivan Region Party Committee (1948-1951). In 1952, he embarked on a teaching career at higher schools that spanned over 40 years and saw him rise through the ranks from a senior teacher to a professor at the Department of History of Communist Party of the Soviet Union at Azerbaijan State University. Yusif Yusifov made a crucial contribution to the development of science of history. He published tens of works on main problems of Azerbaijani history. He was elected a deputy of supreme Soviets of USSR, Azerbaijan SSR and Nakhchivan ASSR. From 1947 to 1951, he chaired Supreme Soviet of Azerbaijan SSR. He received “Lenin” Order twice, and was awarded the ”Order of Red Labor Flag”, “Order of Patriotic War” first degree and a number of medals.
