Tarikh Dostiyev was born on 23 March 1955. In 1981, he graduated from Baku State University, Faculty of History. In 1988, he defended a PhD thesis, and achieved a ScD degree in 2004. He was employed as a senior laboratory assistant, junior research fellow and senior research fellow at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography, Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. He has chaired the Department of Middle Ages Archaeology since 2006. He has served at Baku State University since 1990. He works as a senior research fellow at Azerbaijani Material Culture History research laboratory. Tarikh Dostiyev has been employed as a senior teacher at the Department of Archaeology and Ethnography since 2013. His research interests lie in the history of material culture, Islamic archaeology, socio-economic and political history of Azerbaijani cities and villages in the Middle Ages, urbanization in ancient and Middle Ages, and decorative and applied arts. He leads archaeological expeditions to Shamkir. He has published over 200 papers and two monographs in local and foreign periodicals, and co-authored six books. Tarikh Dostiyev is the main author and editor of the seventh volume of “Archaeology of Azerbaijan” multi-volume book. He has supervised four PhD students in history to completion. He is deputy editor-in-chief of “Archaeology of Azerbaijan” journal. He sits on F/D.01.171 Thesis Council under the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography, Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.
