SEYFADDIN MIRTAGHI QANDILOV (1930-2010) Historian

Seyfaddin Qandilov was born in 1930. In 1953, he graduated with honors from Baku State University. In 1956, he completed his postgraduate studies, and started his working career at the university as a teaching assistant. In 1958, he defended a PhD thesis, achieving a ScD degree in 1967 and professorship in 1969. From 1959 to 1962 he was employed as an associate professor at Azerbaijan Pedagogical Institute and from 1962 to 1966 at Baku State University. From 1966 to 1970, he was department head at Azerbaijan Agricultural Institute, from 1971 to 1998 served as a professor and head of the Department of Political History at Baku State University. From 1999 to 2010, he served as rector of Public Administration Academy under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. He published the results of his researches in more than 20 monographs and textbooks. Seyfaddin Qandilov supervised five ScD and nearly 30 PhD students to completion. In 1989, he made a crucial contribution to the publication of the first extensive working program and textbook on political history. He was a member of the Council of Public Service Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Seyfaddin Qandilov was the recipient of “Merited Scientist” and “Merited Propagator” titles. He was a corresponding member of the International Academy of Sciences.
