SEVDA YUNIS SULEYMANOVA (1954) Historian

Sevda Suleymanova was born on 26 January 1954. In 1971, she entered Baku State University, Faculty of History. Upon graduation in 1976, she worked as a history teacher at a secondary school. In 1980, she was made a laboratory assistant at BSU, and was then promoted to a lecturer in 1986, and associate professor in 1997. In 1984, she did her thesis at the Department of History of Communist Party of USSR. In 1990, she defended a PhD thesis, and got a ScD degree in 2003 and professorship in 2010. She serves as deputy dean of the Faculty of History, BSU. In 2003, she was named “A prominent woman of the 21 st century” by “Vektor” International Research Center. In 2006, she received “Azerbaijani intellectuals of the 21st century” international diploma. In 2007, she received “Golden Pen” media award from the Presidium of the Trade Unions Organization of Azerbaijan Mass Media Workers. She has published over 100 papers, two monographs (one published by LAP-Lambert printing house in Germany) in local and foreign periodicals, four subject programs for bachelor`s and master`s degree students, three handbooks. She has also authored “Contemporary History” textbook for 11th grade secondary school students and “Political History” and “History of Azerbaijan” textbooks for higher schools. She sits on the Scientific Council of the Faculty of History and is scientific secretary of D.02.161 Thesis Council under Baku State University.
