Sefyar Musayev was born on 17 July 1935. From 1953 to 1958, he studied at Baku State University, Faculty of History. He started his working career as a teacher at a secondary school in the village of Chakhirli, Basarkecher region, in 1958. In 1960, he was employed as a special correspondent of “Soviet Armenia” newspaper for Basarkesher, Martuni, Kamo and Krasnoselsk region. He embarked on postgraduate studies at Baku State University in 1962. In 1966, Sefyar Musayev started working as a lecturer at the Department of Political History, BSU, where he was promoted to an associate professor, professor and department head (1982-1999). In 1965, he defended a PhD thesis, and obtained a ScD degree in 1979 and professorship in 1980. Sefyar Musayev contributed considerably to the establishment of the New Azerbaijan Party, and headed famous 91 Intellectuals initiative group. In 1995, Sefyar Musayev was elected a member of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and then chaired Human Rights Standing Commission, and Human Rights Standing Commission of the Interparliamentary Assembly of CIS member countries. He published over 300 papers, six monographs, and “Political History” textbook. Sefyar Musayev paid business trips to France, Turkey, China, Bulgaria and other countries. He was the recipient of three medals.
