RAFAEL JAFAR SULEYMANOV (1940-2014) Historian

Rafael Suleymanov was born on 25 January 1940. He embarked on his working career in 1957. Upon graduation from Baku State University, Faculty of History in 1968, he was offered a job at the university. From 1969 to 1972, he was employed as a laboratory assistant, senior laboratory assistant, teacher and senior teacher at the Department of History of USSR. From 1973 to 1977, he served as deputy dean of the departments of evening and correspondence education, Faculty of History. He was secretary of the faculty`s Scientific Council for over 10 years. He defended a PhD thesis in 1975, and obtained a ScD degree in 1990. In 1984, he worked as an associate professor at the Department of History of USSR (Soviet period). In 1993, he served as a professor at the Department of History of Eastern European Nations (currently Department of History of Slavic Nations). From 2001 to 2014, Rafael Suleymanov served as Deputy Dean for Research, Faculty of History. He was a member of the Scientific Council of the Faculty of History and Scientific and Methodological Council, Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan. He also served as scientific secretary of “History and its problems” journal. He published more than 60 papers, study programs and methodological handbooks for bachelor`s and master`s degree students, textbooks and monographs. He was the recipient of certificates of recognition of USSR Ministry of Higher and Secondary Professional Education, Azerbaijan Lenin Komsomol Central Youth Department, Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation and Ministry of Education.
