OQTAY BASHIR AHMADOV (1930-2011) Historian

Oqtay Ahmadov was born on 25 February 1930. In 1949, he entered Baku State University, Faculty of History, graduating in 1954. He was employed as a history teacher at Baku Medical School No5 from 1953 to 1966. In 1962, he embarked on postgraduate studies at Baku State University. He defended a PhD thesis in 1966, and achieved a ScD degree in 1981 and professorship in 1983. As a teacher at BSU, he served as chairman of the Trade Unions Organization at Faculty of History, head of the Department of Slavic Countries and an advising professor at the department. Oqtay Ahmadov`s research interests laid in the history of melioration and irrigation in the Republic of Azerbaijan. He published 100 papers and articles in local and foreign periodicals. He supervised over 50 masters, five ScD and 30 PhD students to completion.
