NISBAT JANMAHAMMAD MEHDIYEVA (1937) Historian

Nisbat Mehdiyeva was born on 1 January 1937. In 1955, she entered Baku State University, Faculty of History, graduating in 1960. The same year she started her post graduate studies at the university`s department of History of Communist Party of USSR. In 1968, she defended a PhD thesis, achieving a ScD degree in 1991 and professorship in 1994. From 1960 to 1963, she worked as a research fellow at the Institute of History, Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences. From 1967 to 1973, she worked as a senior lecturer at the Department of History of Communist Party of USSR, Azerbaijan State Medical Institute, from 1973 to 1975 as an acting associate professor and from 1975 to 1991 as an associate professor at the Department of History of USSR, Baku State University, from 1991 to 1994 as an acting professor at the Department of History of Turkic and Caucasian Nations, BSU. She has been a professor at the Department of History of Turkic and Caucasian Nations since 1994 and at the Department of History of Turkic Nations since 2012. Her research interests lie in public organization, activities of creative associations and societies, oil industry, cultural affairs and history of Turkic nations. Nisbat Mehdiyeva has published 80 papers and two monographs in local and foreign journals, five textbooks, one book, one handbook, nine study programs, one methodological handbook. She has also published 47 articles and papers of 14 scientific conferences that she participated in. She has supervised more than 20 masters to completion, and has been a thesis opponent of a number of PhD and ScD students. She sat on the Bureau of the Trade Unions Organization of Baku State University, Scientific Seminar and Thesis Council of the Institute of History named after A.A.Bakikhanov. Nisbat Mehdiyeva is now a member of the Scientific Council of the Faculty of History, D.02.161 Thesis Council, and chairs Methodological Council of Baku State University. Nisbat Mehdiyeva is the recipient of “Leading Education Worker” badge.
