Nariman Hasanov was born in Nussuk village, Ordubad region, in 1934. In 1957, he graduated from Azerbaijan State University, Faculty of History. He embarked on postgraduate studies in 1961. In 1966, he defended a PhD thesis, and obtained a ScD degree in 1974 and professorship in 1978. From 1957-1961, Nariman Hasanov was employed as a teacher in Ordubad region. In 1964, he started his working career at Azerbaijan State University, serving as a senior laboratory assistant, teacher, associate professor and professor at the Department of History of Asian and African Nations. From 1985 to 1993, he chaired the Department of Ancient and Medieval History. He published nearly 100 papers on revolutionary liberation movement in Iran and Southern Azerbaijan in early 21st century and on contemporary history of Iran.
