NARGIZ CHINGIZ AKHUNDOVA (1959) Orientalist, historian

Nargiz Akhundova was born in 1959. In 1981, she graduated from Baku State University, Faculty of Oriental Studies. From 1981 to 1983, she was employed as an Arabic language teacher at the Faculty of Oriental Studies, Azerbaijan State University. From 1983 to 1986, she was a postgraduate student at Azerbaijan State University, Faculty of History of Asian and African Nations. She defended a PhD thesis in 1987, achieving a ScD degree in 2007 and professorship in 2010. In 2014, she was elected a corresponding member of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. From 1987-2011, Nargiz Akhundova served as a lecturer, associate professor and professor at the Department of History of Asian and African Nations, Faculty of History, BSU. She has been employed as a senior research fellow at the Institute of History named after A.A.Bakıkhanov, Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, since 2011. She has published more than 100 papers, including four monographs, four textbooks and a handbook.
