Musa Qasimli was born on 28 October 1957. In 1974, he entered Baku State University, Faculty of History. He graduated with honors in 1979, and was dispatched to Yardimli region, where he was employed as a teacher. From 1982 to 1985, he did postgraduate study at Baku State University, Department of Modern and Contemporary History of European and American Nations. He defended a PhD thesis in 1986, and obtained a ScD degree in 1992. From 1986 to 1992, Musa Qasimli was employed as a teacher, senior teacher and associate professor at BSU Department of Modern and Contemporary History of European and American Nations, and deputy dean of the Faculty of History. He is now a professor at the Department of New and Contemporary History of European and American Nations. From 1992 to 1997, he worked at the department of international relations at the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan. In 2010, Musa Qasimli was elected a member of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan. He sits on the Milli Majlis Committee on Science and Education, and is a member of parliamentary friendship groups for Turkey, Canada, Brazil, Peru, Denmark, Malta, Estonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina. He has conducted numerous researches into the history of Azerbaijan, including superpowers` Azerbaijan policy during the First World War (1914-1918), Azerbaijan`s independence struggle and foreign states (1920-1945), Azerbaijan-Turkey, Azerbaijan`s diplomatic and political relations with foreign states (1920-1922), the South Caucasus among Russia, Turkey and Antanta (1920-1924), USSR-Turkey diplomatic and political relations (1960-1991), Azerbaijan`s international cultural relations (1946-1991). He is a member of the Center for Middle Eastern Studies (University of Arizona), Central Eurasian Studies Association (Harvard University), Central Asia and Caucasus Studies, Turan SAM (Turkey). Musa Qasimli is a full member of the International Cadre Academy (Kyiv), and a member of the editorial staff of the “Romanian Review of Eurasian Studies” (Romania), “Central Asia and Caucasus Studies”, “Turan SAM”, “Turk bilimi” (Turkey) and “Qafqaz i mir” (Georgia) journals. He sits on the Thesis Council of Baku State University, Textbook Review Council of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Scientific Council of the Faculty of History, BSU. Musa Qasimli is the recipient of “Leading Education Worker” badge. He has supervised 14 PhD and three ScD students to completion. He has served as director of the Institute of Global Politics, Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, since 2014.
