MEHDIQULUKHAN MAHAMMAD ERIVANSKY (1898-1965) Historian

Mehdiqulukhan Erivansky was born in 1898. In 1918, he finished Irevan classical seminary. The same year he was forced to move to Nakhchivan together with his family to escape the Armenian dashnak regime`s policy of genocide against Azerbaijani Turks. In 1922, he entered Moscow Oriental Studies Institute, Faculty of Oriental Studies, Turkish section. In 1925, he completed his education with degrees in economy and diplomacy, and started his working career at the department of Diplomatic Relations. He was employed as department head at the Archive Department until 1933. He did his research at the Department of General History, BSU, supervised by professor E.Baybakov. In 1933, he embarked on teaching activities. He served at Azerbaijan Pedagogical Institute. From 1934 until his death, Mehdiqulukhan Erivansky worked at BSU. In 1938, he defended a PhD thesis, achieving a ScD degree in 1958. In 1938, he was appointed head of the Department of History of Ancient World, Faculty of History, a post he held until 1955.
