MAMMAD BOYUKKHAN FATALIYEV (1938) Historian

Mammad Fataliyev was born on 25 August 1938. In 1956, he entered Lankaran Pedagogical School, graduating with honors in 1958. From 1958 to 1961, he did his military service. In 1961, he entered Baku State University, Faculty of History. He graduated with honors in 1967. The same year he embarked on postgraduate studies in general history at the Faculty of History, BSU. In 1981, he defended a PhD thesis, achieving a ScD degree in 2006 and professorship in 2012. From 1961 to 1972, Mammad Fataliyev was employed as a history teacher at a secondary school in the village of Barjan, Yardimli region. In 1973, he joined Baku State University, where he rose through the ranks from a teaching assistant to a senior lecturer and to an associate professor at the Department of World History, Faculty of History. He has headed the Department of Modern and Contemporary History of European and American Nations, BSU, since 1999. From 1980 to 1986, he was secretary of the first party organization at the Faculty of History, and from 1993 to 2001 served as deputy dean of the faculty. He is the recipient of “Medal for Valiant Labor” and “Leading Education Worker” badge. Mammad Fataliyev`s research interests lie in Turkey`s Balkans policy, Turkish-Greek relations and superpowers and Cyprus issue in Turkish-Greek relations and superpowers. He has published 120 papers, six monographs, and two handbooks. He is the co-author of “Contemporary history of European and American countries (1945-2002) book. He has supervised over 30 masters and four PhD students to completion. He sits on Scientific Council, Faculty of History, and is a member of the editorial board of “History and its problems” journal. He is also deputy chair of the D.02.161 Thesis Council, Faculty of History.
