JAMIL POLADKHAN HASANLI (1952) Historian

Jamil Hasanli was born on 15 January 1952. He completed his secondary education in 1970. From 1970 to 1975, he studied at Baku State University, Faculty of History. He started his working career as a history teacher in Jalilabad region. In 1977, he embarked on postgraduate studies at the Department of Modern and Contemporary History of European and American Nations, Baku State University. He defended a PhD thesis in 1984, achieving a ScD degree in 1992 and professorship in 1993. In 1980, he started working as a teacher at BSU, and was then promoted to a senior teacher, associate professor and professor. In 1992-1994, he headed the Department of Modern and Contemporary History of European and American Nations. In 1993, Jamil Hasanli served as an adviser to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. His major research area is the history of international relations. He has supervised six PhD students in history and political sciences to completion. In 1983, he attended qualification improvement course at Lomonosov Moscow State University. He participated in a summer school in Southern Illinois University (USA) in 1998, and in research programs in The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars (Washington D.C.) in 2011, and in Humboldt University of Berlin in 2013. From 2000 to 2005, he was a member of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan. He has published 27 monographs in Azerbaijan, Russia, USA, Canada, Great Britain, Turkey and Iran.
