ISMAYIL MAHAMMAD MAMMADOV (1950) Historian

Ismayil Mammadov was born on 25 April 1950. From 1969 to 1974, he studied at Baku State University, Faculty of History. From 1974 to 1976, he was employed as a history teacher at a secondary school in the village of Qaravalli, Zardab region. From 1976 to 1979, he did postgraduate studies at the Faculty of History, where he has served since 1980. He defended a PhD thesis in 1983, and got a ScD degree in 1992. He has been a professor at the Department of History of Turkic and Caucasian Nations, Baku State University, since 1994, where he teaches the ancient and Medieval history of Turkic Nations. Ismayil Mammadov has published over 100 papers, programs, methodological handbooks and textbooks. He is the author of five monographs, and reviewer and scientific editor of a number of works. His “History of Azerbaijan” work was published in English language in London in 2014. Ismayil Mammadov sits on the Scientific Council, Faculty of History, and is also a member of D.02.161 Thesis Council under BSU. He is first deputy editor-in-chief of “History and its problems” journal.
