Isaq Mammadov was born in Qubadli region in 1925. In 1942, he completed his secondary education and was dispatched to Shusha to attend courses for teachers. After finishing the courses he was employed as a teacher and education department head in the village of Qarajalli, Qubadli region. From 1944 to 1949, he studied at Azerbaijan State University, Faculty of History. A Stalin stipend holder, he did postgraduate studies at Azerbaijan State University from 1949 to 1952. In 1955, he defended a PhD thesis, achieving a ScD degree in 1974. From 1952 to 1977, he worked as a teaching assistant, lecturer, senior lecturer, associate professor and professor at Azerbaijan State University, and department head at Azerbaijan State Medical University and Azerbaijan State Oil Academy. He was rector of Nakhchivan State University from 1976 to 1984. An acclaimed researcher, Isaq Mammadov published nearly 300 papers, secondary school programs and textbooks. He contributed greatly to the preparation of highly-qualified specialists. From 1956-1977, he headed Thesis Commission for PhD and ScD students at Azerbaijan State University. From 1973-1982, he was a member of the specialized thesis council on history at Azerbaijan State University and from 1999 to 2002 at Public Administration Academy under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Isaq Mammadov supervised nearly 20 PhD students to completion, and acted as an opponent for about 40 PhD and ScD students. He was a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and member of Nakhchivan city Party Committee. In recognition of his research and teaching activities, he was awarded “Merited Scientist”, “Leading Higher School Worker” and “Merited Teacher” titles. He became the holder of an individual presidential pension in 2007.
