Anar Isgandarov was born on 10 January 1956. In 1973, he entered Baku State University, Faculty of History. From 1978 to 1982, he worked as deputy principal and history teacher at a secondary school in Masalli. From 1982 to 1984, he served as unit head at the Department of Philosophy, Azerbaijan Oil and Chemistry Institute. In 1984, he embarked on postgraduate studies (correspondence) in 07.00.09 – historiography, source criticism and historical research at the Department of Source Criticism, Historiography and Methodology, BSU. He defended a PhD thesis in 1989, and got a ScD degree in 2004 and professorship in 2006. In 1984, he began his research and teaching activity at the Department of Source Criticism, Historiography and Methodology, BSU, serving as a senior laboratory assistant, lecturer, senior lecturer and associate professor. He has headed the department since 1999. Anar Isgandarov has published 250 papers and articles in local and foreign periodicals, and authored four monographs, 14 study programs and a handbook. He has supervised over 30 masters, two ScD and 14 PhD students to completion. He chairs the Expert Council on History and Political Sciences, Higher Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. He is a member of the university and faculty scientific councils, Scientific and Religious Council of the Caucasian Muslims Office, and the Council of Trustees of Azerbaijan-Turkey History Research Foundation.
