ALI MAHAMMAD RAJABLI (1927) Numismatist

Ali Rajabli was born in 1927. He graduated from Zaqatala Pedagogical Vocational School. He worked as a teacher at a secondary school in the village of Mukhakh in 1944-1946. In 1946, he entered Azerbaijan State University, Faculty of Oriental Studies, graduating with honors. In 1951, he embarked on postgraduate studies in numismatics at the Institute of History , Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences. In 1963, he defended a PhD thesis, obtaining a ScD degree in 2000. From 1953 to 2006, Ali Rajabli served as a senior research fellow at Museum of Azerbaijani History. From 1955 to 1968, he was head of the Department of Numismatics and Epigraphy. In 1966, he taught numismatics at Baku State University. Ali Rajabli has made a tremendous contribution to the preparation of highly-qualified specialists. He is a member of the Defence Council, Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography, ANAS. He has published three monographs and over 100 papers on Azerbaijani numismatics. He is the recipient of “Merited Culture Worker” (1972) title, and “Medal for Valiant Labor” (1970) and “Taraqqi” Medal (2000).
