Mammadamin Qaziyev was born in the city of Iravan, on 12 November, 1914. After completing his secondary education in Baku in 1930, he started working as section head at Baku Archive Department. In 1933-1934, he studied at Moscow Institute of History and Archive named after M.N.Pokrovsky. In 1939, he graduated from Azerbaijan State University, Faculty of History. He embarked on a research career in 1937. He contributed greatly to scientific enlightenment and promotion during the World War Two. In 1943-1944, Mammadamin Qaziyev headed the Department of Great Patriotic War, Institute of History of the Communist Party, where he was responsible for collecting and systematizing documents on Azerbaijanis` participation in the Great Patriotic War. In 1944, he was dispatched to courses for diplomatic workers under the USSR People`s Commissariat for Foreign Affairs in Moscow. After completing the course, he was appointed an assistant to the Azerbaijan SSR People`s Commissar for Foreign Affairs. He achieved a PhD degree in 1945, and was made an associate professor in 1946. Mammadamin Qaziyev defended a ScD thesis at Tbilisi State University in 1960, and achieved professorship in 1961. From April, 1961 to May, 1962, he headed the Department of Propaganda, Central Committee of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan, and was elected a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of Azerbaijan SSR. In 1962, he resumed his teaching activity, and joined Azerbaijan State University as a professor at the Department of History of Azerbaijan. From 1970 to 1977, he worked as dean of the Faculty of History. He gave papers at scientific conferences in Tashkent, Lviv, Tbilisi, Riga, Moscow, Uzhgorod and other cities. Mammadamin Qaziyev contributed a lot to the preparation of highly-qualified specialists. He supervised over 60 PhD and ScD students to completion. He authored more than 350 papers, books, booklets and monographs on Azerbaijani history and life and activities of prominent Azerbaijani figures. In 1980, Mammadamin Qaziyev received the State Award of Azerbaijan USSR, and was awarded the title “Merited Scientist” of Azerbaijan in 1982.
