Ibrahim Zeynalov was born on 5 February 1954. In 1971, he completed his secondary education, and did military service from 1972 to 1974. From 1975 to 1980, he studied at Baku State University, Faculty of History. In 1980, he was dispatched to Sabirabad region to work as a teacher. From 1982 to 1985, he did postgraduate studies at Baku State University. In 1986, he defended a PhD thesis, and obtained a ScD degree in 1999 and professorship in 2000. In 1986, he embarked on research and pedagogical activities at the Department of History of Azerbaijan, BSU. From 1996 to 2000, he headed the Postgraduate and Doctoral Studies Unit, BSU. In 1993, he received Abbasqulu Agha Bakıkhanov diploma and “Vatan” award. His research interests lie in problems of Azerbaijani history in the 20th-21st century. Ibrahim Zeynalov has published more than 10 textbooks, handbooks, four monographs, over 160 papers and articles. He has supervised more than 25 masters and seven PhD students to completion. He has been secretary of “Baku University News” (humanitarian news series) journal since 2014.
